## Residents & Businesses

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is back and ready to light-up the city, showing the world how to party into 2026 with four days of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations from Monday 29 December 2025 to Thursday 01 January 2026, featuring fantastic live music, spectacular fireworks and the world-famous _Hogmanay Street Party_.

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is Scotland’s New Year festival, commencing with the much-loved _Torchlight Procession_ on 29 December, followed by _Night Afore_ activities on 30 December before the world-famous _Hogmanay_ _Street Party_ and _Concert in the Gardens_ on Hogmanay night, culminating in the all-important _Countdown to the Bells_ and _Midnight Fireworks_, visible across the city centre skyline. Audiences on New Year’s Day can enjoy a free musical and cultural programme, joining the _First Footin’ Trail_and family-focused _Sprogmanay_ programme taking place in various venues across the city.

As always, the arrangements for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay outdoor events will also involve a number of road closures and parking restrictions in the city centre to facilitate the events taking place, which unfortunately can bring some disruption, particularly to traffic flows, parking and loading.

####

As always, the arrangements for **Edinburgh’s Hogmanay** will also involve a number of road closures and parking restrictions in the city centre to facilitate the events taking place, which unfortunately can bring some disruption, particularly to traffic flows, parking and loading. Several roads will be subject to closures and parking restrictions to ensure that on-street events can take place in safety. Some restrictions to parking will also be required to ensure diversion routes in the city are kept clear. We have worked closely with the City of Edinburgh Council to keep disruption to a minimum.

In the lead up to the events, look out for advance warning signs in place on major access routes to the city centre that provide closure details. The information on road closures and parking restrictions is correct at the time of going to print. However minor alterations may be necessary if circumstances change. Any amendments will be advertised by way of street notices.

Festival Road Closure timings will commence progressively from at 00:01 on 29 December with the main closure of Princes Street and the side streets introduced from 19:00 on 30 December. This will allow essential event building and other works to take place and subsequently will ensure the safety and enjoyment of the public attending [Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party](https://edwinterfest.com/hogmanay/whats-on/edinburghs-hogmanay-street-party-202526) and associated events.

King’s Stables Road will have restrictions throughout December to facilitate loading and unloading into Princes Street Gardens, with further restrictions progressively introduced within the city centre area from 29 December.

Parking restrictions will be clearly indicated by “No Waiting” cones and warning signs. Please ensure your vehicle is not parked within these restrictions as offending vehicles will be removed and may be subject to a parking fine and impound charges. Traders are asked to ensure all deliveries are completed prior to the introduction of the relevant restrictions.

## Torchlight Procession - 29 December

####

The 2025 [Torchlight Procession](https://edwinterfest.com/hogmanay/whats-on/torchlight-procession) will follow the same route as previous years. Whilst no pedestrian access will be restricted to any properties, there will be road closures along the route and pedestrian diversions on the Meadows.

The Procession will assemble on the Meadows with a pre-procession _Fire Festival_, before heading up Simpson Loan, across Forrest Road onto George IV Bridge, turning left onto Lawnmarket towards Castlehill and onto Johnstone Terrace, reaching the finale point of the procession on Castle Terrace where an _Avenue of Fire_ awaits all torch bearers before extinguishing their torches at our _Torch Dip & Tip Stations_.

With minimum event infrastructure, the Torchlight Procession, including the event build and take down period, will take place over two days with all operations carried out within the parameters set by the City of Edinburgh Council. Every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience.

####

Several roads along the Procession route will be subject to temporary closures and parking restrictions during the event to ensure that on-street events can take place safely. Restrictions to parking will also be required to ensure diversion routes in the city are kept clear. We have worked closely with the City of Edinburgh Council to keep disruption to a minimum.

Please find out more information on specific road closures [here](https://s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/cdn2.edwinterfest.com/Files%202025/ROAD%20TRAFFIC%20REGULATION%20ACT%201984.%20SECTION%2014.%20Notice%20-%20Torchlight%20Procession.pdf).

####

Pedestrian access will be maintained across the Meadows however diversions may be in place during the event and setup/take down periods. Pedestrian access along the route will be maintained throughout the period though areas may become busy with spectators during the event.

We ask that businesses along the route, where possible, arrange for tables, chairs and freestanding signage to be taken indoors, with trade waste collected prior to the event road closures. No rubbish to be left kerbside during the event.

## Street Party - 31 December

####

As in previous years, the arrangements for the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay [Street Party](https://edwinterfest.com/hogmanay/whats-on/edinburghs-hogmanay-street-party-202526) will involve the installation of event barriers and gates to ensure public safety. The installation of this infrastructure will begin from 29 December 2025 to be removed overnight after the Street Party, with the arena clear for New Year’s Day. The arena build and break are subject to the same careful planning, with only essential infrastructure used and we have been able to keep the event timings to less than 48-hours (from build through to removal) to help minimise disruption as best we can.

####

During the event build and take down period, all operations will be carried out within the parameters set by the City of Edinburgh Council. Every effort will be made to minimise the inconvenience with noisier operations being carried out earlier in the evening. There is a necessity however to work through the night in some locations, in particular Castle Street, Frederick Street and Princes Street on the night of 30 December for the build, and in the early hours of 01 January for the take down. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and would like to thank you for your understanding while we prepare for the event.

####

The event footprint has remained the same for this year’s event. For safety reasons access lanes on Castle Street will extend up to George Street, and the West-end Gate will be moved West by approximately five meters from 2023 location.

####

If your business is a Licensed Premises and falls within the Street Party arena you are reminded that you will still be operating under your own Premises Licence and should adhere to your agreed licence conditions at all times, including during event times, with no alcohol permitted offsite. We ask that businesses, where possible, arrange for tables, chairs and freestanding signage to be taken indoors, with trade waste collected prior to the event road closures. No rubbish left kerbside during the event.

Businesses who supply alcohol to be consumed off the premises will be contacted by Police Scotland Licensing section direct. Please note there is no glass allowed within the arena and there will be Police Scotland licensing officers on patrol throughout the event.

####

Access to premises is unrestricted during the build period though barrier systems will be set out and in place during the day of Hogmanay. It is only during Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party that pedestrian access is restricted, and arena gates in use which will begin from 17:00 on 30 December with a small section of Princes Street south sidewalk having restricted access with majority of restrictions coming into effect at 18:00 on 31 December until after the event (approx. 04:00 on 01 January). However, routes have been kept open wherever possible and where there are restrictions, Access Passes are available to help ease passage.

####

Anyone who has a property or business within the Street Party arena is offered Access Lane Passes to enable you (your staff and customers if applicable) to gain access to your premises during the event period.

These passes are strictly to allow residents, businesses and customers access through the event safety lanes to properties within the gated Street Party arena. These lanes are also for medics and safety personnel to move quickly across the event area and is imperative that they are kept clear at all times. For this reason, Police and Stewards will be asking anyone found standing in the lane to move on.

**Anyone found selling/promoting these passes as access to the Street Party may forfeit the right to receive them in the future.**

####

Several roads around the Arena will be subject to temporary closures and parking restrictions during the event to ensure that on-street events can take place safely. Restrictions to parking will also be required to ensure diversion routes in the city are kept clear. We have worked closely with the City of Edinburgh Council to keep disruption to a minimum.
